THE DEATH SHOW

Death. Bit grim isn’t it.

Morbid, macabre and even unmentionable, but does it have to be that way?

Drawn together by their shared fear of death, ‘thanatophobes’ Lucy Nicholls and Antonia Beck invite you to embark on a journey of discovery, contemplation and courage. Take some time out to celebrate your own mortality, laugh, cry, stick two fingers up at the grim reaper, and discover why talking about death is incredibly life affirming.

Should death be the ‘final taboo’? After all everybody does it. Perhaps it’s time we brought death out of the shadows and into the (spot)light.

So, let’s start by discussing the d-word

ANTONIA BECK AND LUCY NICHOLLS

Antonia and Lucy are independent theatre makers with a playful, dynamic and cross-art form approach to making original, contemporary work. Having collaborated for 5 years, their shared portfolio includes commissions for the Birmingham Hippodrome, one-to-one performances in pop-up tents with mac Birmingham, and other performances and events in town squares and warehouses.

As part of their research for this production, Lucy and Antonia have taken part in a celebrant training course, are ‘artists in residence’ at a funeral directors, and have spent time with patients at a hospice.

Supported by mac, Birmingham, A Natural Undertaking, BrumYODO, Fair Oaks Day Hospice, Sir Barry Jackson Trust and Arts Council England.
