CALLUMM PICKARD AND THE THIRD LOOK
The creation of 21 year old singer-songwriter Callum, a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and profound son of Coventry who is flourishing in the embers of a once integral music scene.
Callum is influenced by prolific songwriters such as Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Kurt Vile (& the Violaters) and Kevin Parker (Tame Impala). Like these musicians, Callum delivers a variety of moods, arrangements and momentum to his songs and admits he “obsesses on composition”. The release of their debut single ‘Lonely Boy and Girl’ has gained the band features and accolades from the likes of NME Magazine and The Line of Best Fit.
The band’s enviable fluidity and natural progressions between subtle mood shifts are all a matter of time and inevitability, not overexertion; their tight playing and cohesion a matter of chemistry and obscure maturity, evident whilst watching them play in a live capacity. That unassuming nature, that unhurried essence of intuition is what hails this band a breath of fresh air - relevant, and even subversive, in today’s blanketing musical spheres.
Callum's latest single is due for release in the spring. Brian Joseph (who has worked with the likes of Sufjan Stevens/Kathleen Edwards/The Fray and engineered and mixed Bon Iver's second record which won best alternative album of the year at The Grammys back in 2011) has worked alongside him with the song. CJ Camerieri who is currently touring with Paul Simon has played French Horns and Trumpets for the song too. Callum is going to America in June to Justin Vernon's festival and hopes to be recording his new song with 'Brian Joseph' then.
