Lohman creates Re-imagined Photographs: Abstract works of art based on digital photographs by which he presents a new visual reality.

Joost Lohman creates digital abstract work by processing of photographs resulting in images which are visually far removed from the original. He refers to these images as Re-imagined Photographs.

They are the result of applying geometric re-mapping algorithms to the starting picture in search of new shapes and modified textures. Once he has found a satisfying new geometry which excites him and resonates with him aesthetically, the new image is then fine-tuned by means of standard image processing techniques. These comprise the changing of tonal values and colour palettes, both globally and locally, that support or enhance the character of the image. The final result presents the viewer with a new reality which they are free to explore with their own imagination.
