Compositions celebrating family and friends performed by an exceptional master djembe player.

Vieux Bakayoko is an exceptional ‘djembefola’ (master djembe player) from West Africa. He’ll be supported by two fellow West African musicians and, together, they will be performing two of his own compositions. 'Boumba' which is a celebration of his late father, and 'Vieux' celebrates his life and friends.

From mixed Malian and Guinean heritage, Vieux spent his childhood in Senegal before travelling across the Mandeng lands of Mali, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and back to Senegal, learning from the great drum masters of the age. He has worked with Bougarabou and Melody Africa, traditional Senegalese Ballet companies, for many years, directing and performing multiple shows. Vieux also completed a world tour with the Royal Shakespeare Company as percussionist in their 2012 production of Julius Caesar.

A natural teacher and performer, Vieux leads Bakayoko Music Company, delivering African drumming performances and workshops both nationally and internationally.
